Sudhanshu Mittal quits as election cell convenor

Party sources alleged Mittal resigned from the election cell reportedly after pressure on the state unit from a ‘national leader’. Mittal is considered close to Goel and,therefore,was given charge of managing the ‘war room’ of the Delhi unit chief. The resignation will create more difficulties for the current state president as he had entrusted Mittal with responsibilities crucial for the upcoming elections.

When contacted,Mittal confirmed that he had resigned from the post given to him by the party’s Delhi president. “I have resigned but I will not be able to talk about the reasons as to why I have resigned,” added Mittal as he went off for an ‘emergency’ meeting called late night to address the issue.

For a faction-riddled BJP ahead of assembly polls,the resignation of Mittal is seen as a sign of dissent in the party intensifying. The frequent resignations by party state officebearers are not going down well with the Delhi unit chief as well. And for some this resignation has come as a shock.

“We have been hearing changes in the state units for some time after seniors leaders met Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari but this resignation may be taken as a sign of the initiation of changes,” a senior leader in the state unit said.

Mittal was known as a confidante of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. He completed his B.Com from Sri Ram College of Commerce but dropped out to pursue family business. He owns a family tent business in the name of Delhi Tent and Decorators.
