A 32-year-old man was on Thursday arrested on charges of repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter over the last three years.
The girl was admitted to a private hospital last week as she had been complaining of “uneasiness”, police said. The matter was reported after the girl confided in a patient at the hospital that her stepfather was sexually assaulting her.
“We arrested the man after an FIR was lodged by the girl’s mother and members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The child was sent for a medical examination which confirmed rape,” an officer said.
“Childline first received the complaint. We then took the girl and her mother to police,” Shakuntala, a CWC member, said. She has been sent to a shelter home.
