Two sisters aged two and four years were suffocated to death after they accidentally locked themselves inside their father’s new car at Gurgaon’s Kadarpur village Wednesday, police said.
The older girl and her sister fell unconscious and were spotted only after they had been inside the sedan parked outside their house for two hours, police sources said.
“The older girl, after returning from school (at) 2.30pm, took the automatic keys of their brand new car and got into the vehicle along with her sister to play. The family noticed them lying unconscious inside the car around 4.30pm and took them to a hospital where they were declared brought dead,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Chechi said Thursday.
“The parents did not check for the children, who were missing for several hours. The post-mortem was done on Thursday. We are waiting for the report before registering any case,” Chechi added.
The children’s father, a farmer, was in a state of shock and did not want to speak.
Doctors spoke of the possibility of hot and humid conditions inside the car having led to the children falling unconscious.
