The Delhi Police on Wednesday suspended a Sub-Inspector of Adarsh Nagar police station in Northwest Delhi after a vigilance inquiry report found him guilty of having misbehaved with actor Shilpi Marwaha.
Shilpi, who starred in the film Raanjhaana, had alleged that the SI had verbally abused her and illegally detained her at a police station for three hours following an accident which was witnessed by her.
The Additional SHO too was sent to the district lines as a warning after the department found him irresponsible for not having used his supervisory powers to stop the SI from misbehaving with the actor.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) N Gnana Sambandan said,We received the report from the Vigilance department today. Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar has been suspended pending inquiry. A department inquiry will be initiated against him. Misconduct on his part has been found in the report and the SI should have handled the situation professionally.
Sambandan also said,The Additional SHO of Adarsh Nagar Kamal Singh has been sent to the district lines as a warning. He could have used his supervisory powers, but he didnt.
On July 29,an autorickshaw that Shipli was travelling in was hit by a Honda City, after which a tiff ensued between the drivers of the two vehicles. The actor alleged that SI Kumar, who came to mediate, began harassing the auto driver. When Shilpi demanded that her statement as a witness be recorded, she said Kumar abused her and took her to the police station.
In her complaint,Shilpi also stated that at the police station,Kumar threatened to falsely implicate her in a case. She said that other personnel present at the station, including the Additional SHO,did nothing to stop Kumar.
