Shopkeeper shot for resisting robbery attempt, one held

Passersby who heard the shots nabbed one of the three assailants and handed him over to police

A shopkeeper was shot thrice by three assailants when he tried to stop them from looting his shop in Gokulpuri area on Friday night.
Police said the man is recuperating in hospital. One of the three accused was arrested the same night.

According to police, Santosh (35), his brother Sachin (30) and their father were preparing to lock their confectionary  shop on Friday night. Three young men walked in posing as customers. They suddenly whipped out country-made pistols and began looting the shop.
Santosh tried to raise the alarm, police said. However, one of the assailants panicked and fired at him. One bullet hit his stomach, another grazed his head and the third hit his hand.

Police said the assailants were trying to flee on their two-wheelers when passersby who had heard the gunshots, managed to catch hold of one — Mohammad Azad (23). He was handed over to police.

Police said Sachin rushed Santosh to GTB hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
