SHO arrested on graft charge tries to commit suicide

An SHO of a police station in Gurgaon,who was arrested on the charge of taking a bribe,allegedly tried to commit suicide on Saturday.

Investigating Officer in the State Vigilant Bureau of Gurgaon,Jagat Singh said,“Around 6.30 am on Saturday,Sajjan Kumar,SHO of Sadar police station in Old Gurgaon,allegedly ate a mosquito coil,which made him ill. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital by police.”

Singh said officials of the Vigilance team had caught Sajjan Kumar red-handed on Friday accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to provide bail to a man arrested in the Gurgaon Grameen Bank fraud.

BK Rajoura,Chief Medical Officer of Civil Hospital (Gurgaon),said “Sajjan Kumar was brought to the hospital around 7.30 am. He had eaten a mosquito coil because of which he kept vomiting and had diarrhoea. He was suffering from anxiety,so we referred him to a psychiatrist.”

Later,Sajjan was shifted to the Medanta Medicity hospital for further check-up.

Police claimed Sajjan had asked for Rs 2 lakh to provide bail to Rajendra Kumar of Laxmi Nagar,who was a serving a jail term in the Gurgaon Grameen Bank fraud case. Sanjay Gupta,the alleged middleman who was paying Sajjan,has also been arrested,police said.

After his arrest,Sajjan was sent to the State Vigilant Bureau police station in Sector-15. S P Singh,DCP (West),said,“While in custody,Sajjan said he was not feeling well. He is out of danger now. We have ordered an inquiry into the matter and are in touch with his doctors.”
