Senior citizen held for duping shopkeeper

A 65-year-old man was arrested for posing as an SBI official and duping a shopkeeper of money after promising him change in lieu of currency. Police said Ajaypal Singh Rana would buy goods for Rs 50 and leave a good amount of change with the shopkeeper as tip.

“After taking the shopkeeper into confidence,Rana would tell them that he was a banker and he could provide change in exchange of notes. In the present case,the complainant sent his helper,carrying Rs 30,000 for being converted into change,along with Rana. Rana took the man to the bank on his scooter and asked him to wait at the main gate. When he did not return,the helper told his employer about the incident. A police complaint was filed and Rana was arrested,” a police officer said.
