Senior citizen attacked,robbed in GK-I home

A senior citizen was attacked and robbed at her Greater Kailash-I home,on Wednesday afternoon. The incident was reported at 4.30 pm,said the police.

According to the officers investigating the case,the 67-year-old woman,identified as Satwant Kaur,had called mechanics to repair an air conditioner. When the three assailants knocked on the door,she mistook them to be the mechanics.

The assailants allegedly hit Kaur on the head with an iron rod as soon as they entered. They then punched her face,after which she fell unconscious,said the police.

A domestic help (name withheld to protect identity),who stays in a small room on the first floor,witnessed the entire incident. She told the police that the assailants beat up Kaur and later tied her hands and feet.

The robbers then stripped off all the jewellery Kaur was wearing and broke open the cupboards to look for more valuables.

“A laundryman went to her (Kaur’s) residence around 4.15 pm and rang the doorbell. When the maid screamed for help,the laundryman opened the door to find the woman tied up and the house in complete disarray. He immediately came to me afterwards,” a private security guard posted at the opposite house said.

The laundryman then called Kaur’s son,Harvinder Pal Singh,who later called the police.


Kaur was rushed to Sukhda Hospital in Pamposh Enclave,Greater Kailash-I,by the police and her condition is said to be stable. She has some head and face injuries,Kaur’s grandson Ramneet Singh said.

“I came to know about the incident at 5 pm and immediately rushed here. My uncle came here and took my grandmother to the hospital along with the police. The house is in disarray and we have not had time to assess the value of the robbery,” Ramneet Singh told Newsline.

Talking about the domestic help,Ramneet said Kaur was wary of domestic helps because of their involvement in various robberies and had agreed to keep the one after a lot of persuasion.


The victim lives at in R-Block with her son,Harvinder Pal Singh,a businessman in South Delhi. Harvinder was at work when the incident took place.

According to the guard at the opposite house,there have been similar incidents in the area. A week ago,a house in R-Block,GK-I, was broken into and ransacked,said the guard. Ravneet also said his car was stolen from outside his house in R-Block and in another incident his car stereo was stolen. He also said his sister’s house was ransacked recently.

A case of robbery and assault has been registered in the Greater Kailash police station. A crime investigation team and dog squads visited the spot to trace the assailants.
