As the Modi government gets ready to take charge, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the Delhi Police to prepare powerpoint presentations on its modernisation schemes.
All police units have been asked by their chiefs to come up with ideas for the presentation, which will include projects stuck in the pipeline for several years. The presentation is likely to be submitted to the ministry next week.
Police have also been asked for proposals regarding requirements for modernisation schemes. Proposals on various fronts, such as the induction of senior officers from the Northeast, are still pending, sources said.
“We will focus on the safe-city project, which incorporates several modernisation schemes. Implementation of the Intelligent Traffic System is a top priority. For the safe-city project, we have to purchase CCTV cameras. This is a major requirement,” a senior police officer said.
Police will also focus on purchase of gadgets and electronic equipment to help its Special Cell and Economic Offences Wing take on terror and cyber crime. An officer said the Delhi Police will also push for money earmarked under the Rs 1,000-crore Nirbhaya fund, which has been sanctioned by the Finance Ministry.
