A Delhi court Thursday extended the judicial custody of Delhi University professor SAR Geelani, arrested on charges of sedition, till March 16. Geelani was arrested over an event held at the Press Club on February 10, where “anti-India” slogans were allegedly raised.

Geelani was not produced before the court due to security reasons and the remand proceeding was conducted via video-conferencing.

A trial court had earlier dismissed Geelani’s bail plea.

Police had told the court that at an event held at Press Club on February 10, banners were placed showing Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat as martyrs and anti-national slogans, along with slogans demanding independence for Kashmir, were raised.

According to police, the hall in the club was booked by Geelani through one Ali Javed by using his credit card. They claimed that another person, Mudassar, was also involved in organising the event.
