The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Tuesday sealed the basement parking and an open area of the
Pacific Mall and the basement parking of Miraj Cinema in Subhash Nagar for violating corporation norms by charging a parking fee.
The sealing order was passed by the Deputy Commissioner (West Zone) after the malls failed to provide satisfactory response to the showcause notice issued earlier, the corporation stated in a press statement. The Indian Express had on Tuesday reported that 11 malls and 23 private hospitals under the jurisdiction of the SDMC are charging parking fee, according to an internal report prepared by the civic body.
Most malls and hospitals cannot charge parking fee, as they were allowed additional floor area with a condition — that they will allow free parking in the basements. SDMC Commissioner P K Goel said, “The SDMC will not tolerate any violation and adopt a no-tolerance policy in the case. The officials will also make frequent visits to other malls and hospitals too.”
