School notes: BVN Hosts ‘Anveshika’-Innovative Workshop on Physics

On September 7,2012,BVN Pushp Vihar hosted a workshop ’From Hands on to Minds ON’ on innovative teaching of Physics to school students,conducted by the renowned nuclear experimental physicist Prof. H.C. Verma,revered by all science students.

On September 7,2012,BVN Pushp Vihar hosted a workshop ’From Hands on to Minds ON’ on innovative teaching of Physics to school students,conducted by the renowned nuclear experimental physicist Prof. H.C. Verma,revered by all science students. Patronised by AIPT Regional Council-1,the workshop was attended by over 110 science teachers from prestigious schools of Delhi and NCR. Principal Mrs. M. Kushwaha warmly welcomed the distinguished guests. This pioneering attempt to kindle teachers’ imagination to make teaching innovative and creative is in consonance with the Hon’ble President of India’s urging teachers across the country to incorporate teaching aids that facilitate students to learn more,explore more and contribute more meaningfully to society.

The goal of BVN Anveshika IAPT Chapter,which has been initiated by Mrs. Pragya Nopany,HOD Physics was highlighted by Prof. H.C.Verma,who spoke about the importance of creating an environment conducive to optimum learning. Emphasising on the need for demonstration,he said,“Pehle Dikhao,Phir Batao”-reiterating the slogan of ‘Shiksha Sopa’. Dr. Verma has devised 150 short 2-5 minutes experiments that can be performed in classrooms to help students imbibe complex principles of Physics easily. The teachers performed experiments in a gripping 6 hours session. Vice Principal Mr. Desmond D’ Monte proposed the vote of thanks.

News on Abhinavians visited Ms. Sonia Gandhi

A group of students of Abhinav Public School,Pitampura along with Hon’ble Manager and Principal Mrs. Saroj Aggarwal went to Ms. Sonia Gandhi,UPA Chairperson for an Idea Exchange Programme to inlculcate positive values and system of value-barred education in the country. The students asked many queries. She praised the school authorities for giving equal weight age to academics and extracurricular activities. She reiterated the importance of discipline,hard work and determination to reach one’s goal. She also exhorted the young minds to dedicate themselves by imbibing positive values. Students were inspired by the experiences of Hon’ble Mrs. Gandhi. She promised to visit surely the school and share her valuable political and social experiences with young youth. The students thanked Madam for giving her valuable time. In an-hour long meeting Principal weighed with Soniaji. Various western dimensions of school life. APS has always been a torch bearer in the comity of Senior Secondary schools in Delhi towards unfolding the innate tendencies wrapt with every nascent human mind into a well grown world citizen.

State Bank of India felicitates Hillwoods academy educators

Celebrating the undying spirit of teachers who play a hand in transforming a child to an adult,the State Bank of India,Swasthya Vihar felicitated the teachers of Hillwoods Academy on the occasion of teachers’ day.Recognizing the importance of teachers as the pillars of a sound and progressive society and guiding children to become leaders of tomorrow,Chief Manager SBI applauded the efforts made by teachers to shape and mould pliable minds towards a better tomorrow. On this occasion,Mr. D. D. Sharma,the Chief Manager appreciated the sincere and hard work of the teaching faculty.The SBI officials presented a token of appreciation to all the faculty members. They also sponsored prizes for the winners in quiz and game shows organized by class XII students. Two best pupil teachers’ prizes were also sponsored by the bank.Education Head of the school presented a vote of thanks to SBI team for their good gesture and appreciation.

Investiture Ceremony at DPS R.K.Puram


On 7thSeptember 2012,Delhi Public School,R.K. Puram,held its Investiture Ceremony. The ceremony is an important event in the school’s calendar as the newly elected appointees take up the mantle of responsibility to lead the school. The chief guest was Mr. Ashok Chandra,the Chairman of the DPS Society. The Principal,Dr.D.R.Saini extended a warm welcome to all the guests. The school orchestra played an enchanting fusion of Indian and Western classical music. The Vice Principal,Mrs. Shobha Mehta; the Headmistresses,Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Mrs. Anita Singh were present on the occasion.

The Head Girls and Boys led a march past. Mr. Ashok Chandra administered the oath of office and all the school appointees pledged to uphold the values and traditions of the school and follow the school’s motto of ‘Service before self’. The Head Girls and Boys spoke about the influence of DPS R.K Puram on their lives and shared their vision for the school. According to one of them,“All one needs is a will and this institution will find a way”.

The Vice Principal,Mrs. Shobha Mehta delivered the vote of thanks,followed by the National Anthem.

St.Mark’s English play competition

St.Mark’s Sr.Sec.Public School,Meera Bagh,organized an English Play Competition for classes VI and VIII on 18.8.12. The students participated in the competition with full zeal and enthusiasm.  Mr.Himanshu Mehta,Actor and theatre enthusiast and Ms.Silky Khanna from The Times of India group were the esteemed judges for the event.Class VI presented “Mary Poppins”,“Before the Match” and “The Messenger – Joan of Arc” and class VIII presented the plays “Pride and prejudice”,“Great Expectations”,“Mr.Eccentric” and “Rumours”.The Best Play award went to “The Messenger – Joan of Arc” (presented by class VI) and “Mr.Eccentric” (presented by class VIII)In class VI,the Prize for Best Actor Male went to Muktesh Sharma  and Ketan Kapoor,Best Actor Female bagged by Yukta Anand and Harpreet Kaur.Prizes for Best Dialogue Delivery were bagged by Riya Bhatia,Yash Kapoor and Harpreet Kaur.Ishika Kalra,Rohit Bagga and Mukund Bhalla won the Special Awards for Stage Presence.Special Prizes were bagged by Nikita Arora,Manas Mehta,Siddharth Malhotra and Nishtha Vashisth.In class VII,the Prize for Best Actor Male was bagged by Simrat Singh,Shikhar Juneja and Siddhant Juneja while Best Actor Female went to Riya Gupta and Shreya Manocha.Prize for Best Dialogue Delivery was bagged by Shivam Shah.Aayati Nagpal,Siddharth Sharma and Shikhar Juneja won the Special Awards for Stage Presence.Special Prizes were bagged by Sachin Mondal and Riya Nagpal…

Birla Vidya Niketan,Pushp Vihar Celebrates 29th Foundation Day

BVN celebrated its 29th Foundation day with usual finesse and élan. On this occasion the school felicitated over fifty academic achievers and awarded merit scholarships to hundred and four deserving students at the prize distribution ceremony. Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely,Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development,Government of Delhi graced the occasion as the eminent Chief Guest and Mr. Nila Madhab Panda,the celebrated filmmaker of acclaimed movies like ‘I am Kalam’ and ‘The Desert Mermaid’ was the Guest of Honour.

The Principal Mrs. Minakshi Kushwaha presented the school report before the august gathering of Managing Committee members,dignitaries and parents. The students presented a brief,outstanding cultural programme titled ‘Reaching for the stars.’ A dance choreography ‘Shiv Stuti’ was followed by ‘Star Child’ –a mesmerizing musical dance drama. The beautiful songs rendered melodiously by the students of western music underscored the rich values of the school- faith,love and determination to achieve excellence.

The Chief Guest praised the superlative academic performance of BVN students,a feat they have been achieving year after year,and emphasized upon the need for holistic and meaningful learning. He complimented the school on imbuing admirable values in the students and for nurturing them as responsible citizens. Mr. Nila Madhab Panda urged students to dream big and pursue their goals with passion. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal Mr. Desmond D’ Monte.
