Sangam Vihar: Schoolboy run over, mob vandalises 16 buses,torches 1

A 15-year-old school student was run over by a DTC bus while returning home from school in Southeast Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the incident,police said residents went on a rampage. They blocked roads in the area and vandalised over 16 buses and set one of them on fire,police said.

The boy,police said,was reportedly travelling on the bus and he came under the rear wheels of the bus after he got off in Sangam Vihar.

According to police,the 15-year old was crushed by the DTC bus on Ravidas Marg-MB Road junction near Sangam Vihar.

An FIR under sections of causing death due to negligence (304A) and rash driving (279) has been registered at the local police station.

Police said after the accident,the mob resorted to stone pelting and damaged police vehicles. A case of rioting and obstructing public servant in discharge of duty has been registered and nine persons arrested,police said.

Eyewitnesses told police that the boy was seen leaning out of the bus. He was standing on the footboard. He lost his balance,fell off and came under the wheel when the bus suddenly halted.

Among those protesting were parents who said the area has many schools but there was no service to pick up and drop children home safely. The children were forced to travel on crowded buses,one of the protesters said.

A police officer said,“The mob took to stone pelting and vandalised not only the DTC buses,but also private ones,vehicles parked in the vicinity and some schoolbuses. Many passengers in the bus sustained minor injuries in the stone-pelting. The protesters also blocked the road for nearly an hour,throwing traffic out of gear.”
