Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was on Sunday afternoon moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon after his health deteriorated.
His son and SP chief, Akhilesh Yadav, daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav and other family members, including Dharmendra Yadav, reached the hospital in the evening.
At 8.51 pm, Akhilesh came out of the hospital and assured party supporters, who had assembled outside the emergency area, before leaving the hospital. “Netaji (Mulayam) is doing fine…his condition is stable,” Dharmendra Yadav told party workers.
Minutes later, the party issued a statement on its official Twitter handle. “Respected leader is admitted to the ICU, his condition is stable. It is a humble request to all of you that please do not come to the hospital. Information about his health will be given to you all from time to time,” it tweeted.
“The doctors are saying that by tomorrow, they will be able to tell us more,” said SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary.
A party functionary told The Indian Express that Mulayam Singh Yadav (82) was admitted to the hospital in the last week of August and had been undergoing treatment for the past few weeks. “A couple of months ago also, he was brought to the hospital for a check-up and was discharged. Today afternoon, one of his vitals deteriorated and he was shifted to the ICU for treatment,” said the party functionary.
The hospital authorities did not respond to multiple calls and messages.
Nearly a month ago, on September 6, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had called on Yadav at Medanta hospital.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya tweeted wishing for his recovery. “I have learnt of former UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s health deteriorating through the media. I wish and pray to God for his speedy recovery,” he wrote.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted, “We are all concerned to hear about the deteriorating health of Mulayam Singh Yadav ji and are praying for his speedy recovery.”
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called up SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and enquired about his father’s health.
