A key prosecution witness in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, while deposing before a Delhi court on Thursday, identified Congress leader Sajjan Kumar as one of the accused in an alleged case of murder and rioting in Sultanpuri area of West Delhi.
Deposing before District and Sessions Judge Kamlesh Kumar, Sheela Kaur identified Sajjan Kumar and told the court he had instigated the mob during the riots. Kaur’s husband Balveer Singh and her father-in-law were killed in the riots.
During the examination of the witness, there was a heated exchange between the defence and counsel for the victim, senior advocate H S Phoolka, who claimed the version the witness had given had not been recorded correctly. Kaur’s cross-examination was deferred after she told the court she was tired. The court will continue to record her statement on September 17.
