Sacked driver strangled MNC employee: Police

The incident came to light after Singh’s family reached her flat in Udaygiri Apartments around midnight Saturday.

A day after a senior employee of a multinational company, Archana Singh, was found dead in her Noida Sector 34 flat, police arrested her former driver, Sandeep Sisodia on charges of having murdered her.

Irked at not having been paid his salary dues amounting to Rs 5,200, Sisodia is suspected of having strangled the woman late Saturday night, the police said.

According to Noida police officials, Sisodia, a resident of Dadri, had been sacked earlier this month.

Anoop Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-2nd), Noida, said, “On Saturday, he tracked her movement and entered the premises of Udaygiri Apartments shortly before she returned home. He waited for her to be alone inside the flat. In an inebriated state, he went to her flat and told her she owed him Rs 5,200 as salary dues. She told him his dues had been cleared, but agreed to give him Rs 2,000. They had a heated argument and he strangled her.”

Police said Sisodia stole an Ipad, a laptop, a wristwatch and a phone from Singh’s house. “All these items have been recovered from him,” Kumar added.

During questioning Sunday evening, Sisodia initially maintained he was nowhere close to Noida Sector 34 Saturday. “He also initially told us he left for his Dadri house at about 5.45 pm on Saturday. However, after going through his call detail records, we realised he had been in and around Sector 34 the entire day. During further questioning, he broke down and confessed he had committed the murder,” Kumar said.

The incident came to light after Singh’s family reached her flat in Udaygiri Apartments around midnight Saturday. CCTV footage recovered from the housing society showed that Singh had reached home around 7.30 pm. When Singh did not respond to phone calls for around three hours, a relative reached her flat. “The flat’s main door was bolted from outside and her body was found in a room on the floor. She had been covered with a bedsheet and there was blood on her face,” a police official said.
