‘Rustlers’ run over man in Gurgaon

A 24-year-old man was murdered allegedly by a group of cattle thieves early on Sunday morning in Jamaalpur village near Gurgaon. Many villagers blocked the Gurgaon-Pataudi Road,demanding justice and even took to hurling stones at police. They ended their protest after authorities agreed to meet their demands.

According to the police,Vikrant from village Khwaspur was hit by a truck carrying stolen cows on Saturday night.

Vikrant had helped police gather information about these thieves and would stand guard at various checkpoints. After being tipped off about the thieves,the boy followed them on his motorcycle late Saturday night to spot the truck smuggling cattle.

Vikrant was declared dead at a Gurgaon hospital.

Over 1,000 villagers protested for four hours. Dharmendra,a villager,said: “Villagers blocked the main road demanding that the body of the youth be cremated with state honours for helping police,compensation and jobs for family members.”

Rahul Sharma,Gurgaon DCP (South),said: “Six of our police constables who were responsible for manning the checkpoints near the Jamaalpur checkpoint have been suspended for dereliction of duty. Four teams have been formed to nab the assailants and an inquiry panel has been set up.”
