The Delhi Cabinet hit the ground running on Saturday, with several ministers inspecting ongoing projects even as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a meeting with Public Works Department (PWD), and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials.
“A discussion was held with PWD officials about the condition of broken roads and drains… necessary improvements were discussed,” Gupta said after the meeting that was also attended by ministers Pravesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ashish Sood. This comes in the wake of poor road infrastructure and lack of cleanliness being key issues in the recently concluded Assembly polls.
Gupta also held a meeting with DJB officials, where water-related issues were discussed in detail, said officials.
Parvesh Sahib Singh, while reviewing the first project – strengthening of a 4-km long stretch of Ring Road from Ashram to Bhairon Road T-point – a day after taking charge of the PWD, instructed a contractor: “The road should be properly made. Road achha banana hai… aisa nahi ki kharab ho jaaye (The stretch should be made properly…. there should not be any quality issues).”
Verma also asked the contractor not to break any drains, so that the road would not have to be dug up again.
Next he visited the construction site of the Barapullah Phase 3 flyover – a 4.5-km stretch that will connect Mayur Vihar Phase 1 to Sundial at Sarai Kale Khan. Later in the day, Singh posted on X: “Today, I inspected with PWD officials and L&T officials looking after the construction work, took complete information and gave them directions to complete the construction work soon.”
From the Barapullah Phase 3 flyover site, Singh went to examine the pump facility at Moolchand, where pumps are being upgraded. “In the next two months, we will install seven pumps in addition to the one existing… The aim is to ensure that Moolchand underpass does not get flooded this time during rainfall,” said a PWD official.
“We have removed the old ones and installed new Japanese pumps,” he added.
Ashish Sood, Education and Urban Development Minister, also visited his constituency Janakpuri on Saturday. “Today started the work of cleaning the mountains of garbage on Pankh Road and also instructed all the PWD officers to free the entire Janakpuri Assembly from the heaps of garbage and waste as soon as possible,” he posted on X.
Meanwhile, in his first visit to a medical institution after taking charge as the Health Minister, Pankaj Kumar Singh on Saturday inspected the Tula Ram Memorial Hospital at Jafarpur Kalan along with BJP West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat. He also inaugurated a road in his constituency of Vikaspuri.
The Minister directed the officials concerned to work on the inadequacies he identified during the visit to the hospital, within three months. “Any kind of negligence in providing health facilities to the people will not be tolerated. Thousands of patients from Delhi come to Rao Tula Ram Hospital for treatment,” he said.
During the inspection, the minister was informed that four years after work had started, the construction of the new block at the hospital is yet to be completed. He, meanwhile, sought details about vacancies of specialist doctors in the hospital.
Hospital officials said Pankaj Kumar Singh met patients in various wards. “He directed to focus on ensuring that patients get good treatment and sought further improvement in the cleanliness system,” said an official.
The minister further instructed the hospital staff to make additional arrangements to manage the crowd so that patients and their families do not face any issue.
He also took detailed information from the doctors and staff about the availability of medicines at the hospital.
