Road rage: Tempo driver beaten to death over ‘rash driving’ in central Delhi; 3 nabbed

According to the officer, one of the e-rickshaw passengers slapped Gokran, while the other two dragged Bunty out of the three-wheeler and kicked, punched, and thrashed him until he collapsed on the spot. The three fled as a crowd began to gather.

Gokran rushed Bunty to a hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival, police said.

A team was formed to crack the case under Inspector, Special Staff, Rohit Saraswat. The team scoured footage from multiple CCTV cameras to track the movement of the e-rickshaw — and they found it was heading towards Yudhishthir Setu via Kashmere Gate.

Further analysis of the footage revealed that these persons had purchased alcohol from a liquor shop before the incident and had gotten out of the rickshaw at Moti Gate.

“We identified the e-rickshaw, and it was found that the accused had boarded it from SPM T-Point, Lahori Gate,” DCP Banthia said.

The trail finally led the police to one of the accused, Ritesh, who was arrested from a dry fruits shop in Lahori Gate on Thursday. The other two accused were also arrested.

During questioning, police said the accused admitted that the incident took place when the tempo hit their e-rickshaw. The trio slapped, punched, and kicked Bunty, which led to his collapse, police said.

“The accused didn’t know that Bunty died and weren’t aware that police were searching for them,” DCP Banthia said.
