Road mishap victim’s family gets Rs 28 lakh

The family members of a man,who died in a road accident after his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle in 2011,has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 28 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).

MACT Judge Harish Dudani directed the New India Assurance Company Ltd,with which the offending Toyota Qualis was insured,to pay Rs 28.30 lakh to the kin of 41-year-old Mam Chand who was employed as a sweeper with New Delhi Municipal Council. “The petitioners are thus awarded Rs 28,30,402 with interest at the rate of 9 per cent per annum from the date of filing of petition till its realisation…,” the judge said.

The victim’s family said,Chand was going towards Trilokpuri from Connaught Place on June 19,2011,when a Toyota Qualis hit the motorcycle. Both Chand and the pillion rider fell down. They were taken to a hospital where Chand died.
