A sales manager of the Red FM radio channel died when his WagonR car hit a tree in the Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi late on Wednesday night.

Zuhaib Khan (27) was returning from an office party in Connaught Place with three friends — Sunil Kumar (30),Sunil Sharma (30) and Hemant Sharma (30) — when the incident took place. They all worked for the radio station. The police said Hemant, who was driving the car,was in an inebriated state. The police said the four were going to Yashwant Palace, where Sunil’s bike was parked.

Hemant, who was reportedly speeding, lost control while negotiating a turn. The car then crashed into a tree on Vinay Marg, with Zuhaib smashing his head on the dashboard. After Sunil called the police from his mobile phone, the injured were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital.

“Khan sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The others were admitted and were discharged on Thursday at 8 am,” a senior police official said.

After the post-mortem at Lady Hardinge Hospital,Khan’s body was handed over to his family. Outside the mortuary, his younger brother Shanib Khan said,“We had no idea that he had gone to a party. We came to know about the accident after we got a call from the police this morning.” Khan’s roommate and friend Atif Khan said,“I came to know about it in the morning. He had called last night and told me not to wait up for him as he would be late.” The police said Khan had been working with Red FM in Noida for the last two years.

His mother, two brothers and a sister live in Okhla, while he lived with Atif in a rented accommodation in Lajpat Nagar. His father works in Malaysia.

Hemant has been booked for driving under the influence of alcohol and other relevant sections of the IPC.
