The beautiful ballads and symphonies of legendary Polish composer Frédéric François Chopin has enthralled the world for over two centuries now. The celebrations of the 200 th birth anniversary of the musician began in Poland almost a year ago and have been going on in Delhi as well since March this year.
Organised by the Polish Embassy and Delhi Music Society,Saturday evening was a fitting tribute to the maverick musician as two talented pianists from Poland Pawel Sobowiec and Krzysztof Trzaskowski performed at the IIC Annexe as part of the celebrations and interacted with students from 12 schools, telling them about Chopin.
It is always an honour to play Chopins music, because it relies on some intense melodic curves. To us his music is supreme and playing it in front of an Indian audience is special because many of them understand western classical music well, said Sobowiec, who has also recorded a CD in collaboration with the Fryderyk Chopin Music University,Warsaw titled Chopin in India. This is a unique gift prepared specially for India, he said. The event titled Chopin: Notes and Colours comprised a painting competition, quiz, songs and short piano presentations by other young artists from both Poland and India.
