Mohammad Tasawwur (31) was at Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, his hometown, on Monday evening when he heard that a blast had ripped through a car near the Red Fort in Delhi. A teacher who has been running a madarsa in Northeast Delhi since 2020, Tasawwur turned on the news, as reports of bodies piling up at Lok Nayak Hospital started pouring in.

“I was listening to the telecast. Dur Dur tak nai socha tha ki main hi news mein aa jaaunga (Never thought I will be the one making news),” he said.

Tasawwur, who has been running the Madrasa from a rented accommodation, T-481 in street 17 of Gautampuri, received a call just 12 hours after the blast. Umar Nabi, who had driven the i20 car that had exploded on Monday, had bought a EcoSport car that was registered at the address of his madarsa.
