As the AAP seems to be inching closer to the likely expulsion of senior leaders Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha, the faction led by these ousted leaders is wasting little time in taking forward ‘swaraj abhiyan’ – a movement on alternative politics. The movement, leaders maintain, will practice ideals which they had expected the party to follow.
Following the success of its Swaraj Samvad event on April 14, the group claims to have received six offers for office spaces in Delhi/NCR, as well as seed money offers to begin work.
Yadav said the movement will steer clear of criticising the AAP government and focus on the “positives”.

Alluding to the AAP, its recent stellar performance in the Delhi Assembly polls and the divide within the party, Yadav said, “A political party becoming an election machine – and that too of one city – that is the source of all degeneration… Success at all costs and success to form government – it is this temptation that has led us to this state.”
Calling ‘swaraj abhiyan’ “a new beginning”, Yadav said, “Creating alternative politics in this country was the primary objective of this party (the AAP). Swaraj abhiyan is a serious attempt to meet this objective. It is a movement, not a political organisation. This campaign aims to awaken the spirit of swaraj across the country.”
Maintaining that there was a lot of disillusionment in the country following the political developments taking place in the last few months, Yadav further said, “There is a feeling among people that all parties are the same. This cynicism is very dangerous. The party had generated the hope of alternative politics. Swaraj abhiyan is an attempt to ensure that this spirit and hope is not lost.”
He said swaraj abhiyan will see the implementation of the ideals for which leaders like Bhushan and him had differences with other AAP leaders. “We will have to realise the ideals that we demand from others,” Yadav said.
