After the pre-inspection tests, the first train set will be shifted to the Shanghai port by July 10. The train sets will take another four weeks to reach the Mundra Port in Gujarat, the official said.

The train will be brought to Gurgaon through surface transport, and will take around two weeks to reach — around August 15. The trial run will start with the first train on October 2.

Work is also on to ensure power for the project, with setting up of sub-stations in the final stages.

The aluminum coaches of Rapid Metro, officials said, will be lightest of all Metro trains in India. The light weight will ensure less noise — less than 80 decibel — and maintenance when compared with heavier Metro trains.

A more compact variety of compressor,Scroll Compressor System, will be used in the air conditioners of the coaches. This will reduce the noise level inside the coaches. The coaches will also have humidity control sensors.

The trains will have a capacity of around 1,000 passengers and a maximum speed of 80 kmph.

Rapid Metro will have six stations, with an expected ridership of 2 lakh passengers per day. The state-of-the-art Metro will run on standard gauge and the total cost for the project is Rs 1,088 crore.

IL&FS group companies are the main promoters for this project.
