691 lives lost in railway accidents in 2022 in Delhi, majority blamed on ‘Other Causes’: NCRB

(Express file photo) The National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) 2022 annual report shows 691 people lost their lives and 105 were injured in railway-related accidents in Delhi. This marks an increase in the number of deaths from the previous year when 550 fatalities and 126 injuries were reported in the national capital.
In 2022, Delhi accounted for 50.9 per cent of railway accidents among 53 megacities, a slight decrease from the 52.8 per cent recorded the year before.
The report attributes the accidents to the “others” category, which encompasses incidents such as individuals falling or getting crushed under trains. The majority of states and Union Territories categorised railway accidents under the broad label of ‘Other Causes,’ totalling 22,160 out of 23,139 reported cases.
