Rahul unwell, Delhi Congress unit looks at Priyanka to take over poll campaign

With Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, failing to participate in scheduled rallies owing to ill health, The Indian Express has learnt that the Delhi Congress has requested its central leadership to rope in Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to take charge of the campaign for the February 5 polls.

On January 20, Rahul was expected to hold a rally in New Delhi alongside Congress candidate and former CM Sheila Dikshit’s son, Sandeep Dikshit, but he was a no-show. The next day, he missed the party’s centenary celebrations of the 1924 Belagavi Congress session in Karnataka.

On Wednesday, Rahul was scheduled to address the first of three consecutive election rallies in Delhi, starting at Inderlok Metro station in Sadar Bazar constituency. At the event, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav told the gathering, “… we all are waiting for Rahul Gandhi ji. But due to his ill health, he might not be able to come… He has sent me a message to give to you…”
