PWD directs officials to implement pending transfer orders in 5 days
The PWD secretariat has now issued an ultimatum to make sure that the transfer orders are implemented immediately and engineers are relieved of their charge within the next five working days.

Officials working in different branches of the Public Works Department (PWD) have remained in their positions despite being issued transfer notices months ago.
The PWD secretariat has now issued an ultimatum to make sure that the transfer orders are implemented immediately and engineers are relieved of their charge within the next five working days.
A senior official said that several transfer/posting orders, which were supposed to be implemented months ago, have not been implemented yet.
“It has been brought to the notice that the transfer/posting orders issued by the PWD Secretariat, in respect of engineering officers, are not being implemented and are not being brought to effect immediately. It is expected that transfer/posting orders should be implemented within 5 working days of the issuance but the same is not being observed diligently,” the order, issued on July 17 by PWD special secretary said.
Officials said that there are 15-17 such orders.
The order further said, “It is requested that all the transfer/posting orders issued from January, 2023 onward be reviewed and brought to effect at once. A compliance report be sent to the secretariat…so that the matter may be placed before higher authorities.”
The special secretary added that in case of non-issuance of relieving order or non-compliance of the same in five working days, the officer shall be relieved and shall report to the new place of posting without waiting for formal relieving.
Another senior PWD official added, “Usually, the transfer order of an officer is delayed or cancelled on medical grounds or in emergency cases. But in PWD, some engineers are on good terms with the powers that be, so they try to stay the orders.”
