A day after residents of Buddha Vihar and Rahul Vihar area held a massive protest on NH-24 in Ghaziabad,an FIR against 49 people (who were named) and against 900 unnamed people was registered at the Vijay Nagar police station.
A clash between police and residents of a Ghaziabad colony had occurred on Saturday, when the Ghaziabad Development Authority officials arrived at the colony, which they claimed was unauthorised,to evict the residents.
Angry protesters blocked the NH-24,resulting in a traffic jam stretching as long as 15 km. The road from Lal Kuan to UP Gate was reportedly blocked.
Besides, the mob also set afire more than a dozen vehicles, including a bus and two trucks. With protesters getting out of control, police fired teargas shells to disperse the mob and resorted to canecharge.
While GDA authorities claimed the colony was set up on government land by land mafia, residents resisted the eviction drive saying they have been living in the area for the past 15 years.
