PREVALENCE OF chronic kidney disease increased by 5.6% between 1990 and 2017, according to data from the Global Burden of Disease presented in Parliament.

The risk factors for the condition include an ageing population, sedentary lifestyle and use of tobacco products, alcohol, and unhealthy diet, the reply by Union Minister of State for Health Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar said.

The reply states that data of patients with chronic kidney disease is not maintained centrally at present but a renal registry has been envisioned under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme.
