Poll panel chief holds review meeting ahead of LS elections

No advertisements, hoardings at the cost of the exchequer will be allowed.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, Vijay Dev, on Monday convened a review meeting of all heads of departments of the Delhi government to discuss the general preparedness for Lok Sabha elections.

Other topics that were discussed during the meeting included the enforcement of the model code of conduct, action plan for prevention of defacement of public property and availability of basic minimum facilities (BMF) at polling stations. The meeting was attended by principal secretaries, transport commissioner, CMD of Delhi Transport Corporation, municipal commissioners, secretary of NDMC, Delhi police and officers of DIP.

“Since announcement of elections will be done by the Election Commission of India very soon, the model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect. No advertisements, hoardings at the cost of the exchequer will be allowed. Those existing will be removed immediately. The Directorate of Information and Publicity, the land-owning agency and the departments with whose funds advertisements are issued are responsible and will take immediate action in this regard,’’ a government official said.
