A policeman tried to end his life on Sunday by jumping off the Qutub Minar Metro station. Head Constable Dayanand (58) was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre. He is critical, police said.

The incident comes days after a Delhi Police head constable committed suicide outside a temple in Outer Delhi.

Police said Dayanand suffered multiple injuries to his head and chest. CCTV footage at the Metro station showed Dayanand jumping off the platform. He fell near a road below.
CISF officers and some passengers rushed to his help and called police, who rushed Dayanand to hospital. Doctors said he is critical and has been kept under observation.

No suicide note was recovered by police. Dayanand was posted at the Chanakyapuri police station in New Delhi district. But he was on leave for the last six months.

His family told police that he was suffering from depression and was on medication for the last four months. Dayanand lived with his family in the Malviya Nagar police quarters. He had joined the force in 1976 and was due to retire in two years. His family told police that he had left home early morning without informing anyone.

Last Wednesday, Head Constable Anil Kumar, posted at the Kanjhawala police station, visited a temple in the same area and shot himself with his service pistol outside the temple. Kumar, 45, wrote in his suicide note that he was unhappy with the police department.
