A Day after the Ford Fiesta of Harish Khare, media advisor to the Prime Minister, was stolen from his residence in Civil Lines, the Delhi Police recovered the car from Nehru Vihar’s D-Block area and detained a juvenile in this connection.

Police are now on the lookout for the other two accused, including a juvenile who is in possession of the advisor’s laptop and mobile phone.

Police said the mastermind, identified as Rohit, runs an organised racket that involves juveniles committing thefts. He had left the car in the possession of the arrested juvenile,so he could look for a buyer, when the police struck.

Khare told the police that when he woke up around 6.30 am on Wednesday,he found that his Blackberry mobile phone, his laptop and his car keys were missing. The balcony door was ajar. When he stepped out,he noticed that his car was missing.

A CCTV camera installed outside the ATM booth of Dena Bank provided some clues. “The footage showed two men lurking around the compound late at night, one of them carrying a laptop. After an extensive search, the car was traced to D Block,Nehru Vihar, near Ganda Nala. The juvenile involved in the crime was sitting inside the vehicle,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) I B Rani.

When the juvenile refused to get out of the car, police broke the windscreen and arrested him. Two cellphones and cash, amounting to Rs 4,500,were recovered from his possession.

When questioned, the juvenile confessed to the crime and spilled the beans on Rohit and the other juvenile.

“He told us that Rohit used to force him and his friend to commit thefts and burglaries,as it was easier for juveniles to enter people’s premises. After committing the crime,Rohit had parked the car in a residential colony and left in search of a buyer. He told the juvenile that he would return the next morning to retrieve the car,” said Rani.
