Police on Monday recorded the statement of cricketer Murali Kartik, three days after a car he was driving hit another and injured two persons.
Kartik reached the Chanakyapuri police station at 4 pm. Police said Raj Kumar, the driver of the other car,too will be called for recording his statement.
An FIR pertaining to rash and negligent driving has been registered.
On October 28,Kartik and his wife Shweta were returning home from Taj Mansingh around 12:30 am. According to police,Kartik was driving a Volvo, which hit a Xylo at the Niti Marg-Tenzing Norgay Marg intersection. While Raj Kumar was at the wheel, two others — Sudeep and Johns A K — were on the rear seat. Sudeep fractured his right arm while Johns had minor injuries. Shweta too had minor bruises.
The injured were taken to RML hospital, where Shweta was discharged. On the day of the incident, the victims Sudeep and Johns did not file a complaint, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi said Kartik was made to undergo an alcohol test, which registered negative.
In an FIR registered on October 20,Sudeep said he was unable to give a statement on the day of the incident since his friends took him to Pushpanjali hospital in Ghaziabad from the RML hospital.
Speaking to Newsline,Johns said “We weren’t in a position to give a statement the first day since we were in a state of shock after the incident.” He alleged that the medical report had been tampered with.
Asked about the allegation,DCP Tyagi said,“This was not mentioned in their official statement to us. If they give us a fresh complaint on the allegation that the medical report was tampered with,we will conduct an inquiry into the matter immediately.”
