Police on Saturday questioned a woman acquaintance of Deepak Bhardwaj, the BSP leader who was shot dead in his farmhouse on Tuesday.
Police said the woman works at Bhardwajs real estate office in GK-1. Police said they questioned her on the basis of Bhardwajs call detail records.
The woman, investigators claimed, was questioned for over six hours at the Vasant Kunj South police station. Police said she reportedly told them of her relationship with Bhardwaj and that she was known to his son as well.
Earlier this week,Bhardwaj, declared the richest candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, was shot dead by two armed assailants who arrived in a Skoda Laura at his farmhouse on NH-8.
Bhardwajs wife and son too were questioned for several hours at the farmhouse. Police claimed they have several leads after analysing Bhardwajs call detail records.
Sources said investigators were going through records of all those acquaintances of Bhardwaj who left the city or the country two days before and after the incident.
So far,no one in the family has been given a clean chit. Police are studying Bhardwajs investments and trying to establish the properties which were under dispute and with whom he had differences over the same.
Sources said Bhardwaj mainly dabbled in disputed properties and had, therefore, several business rivals.
Officially so far, senior police officers said they have only detained Rakesh, the owner of the Skoda used by the assailants.
Officials refused to confirm if the main assailants Sunil and Purushottam had been detained. Police said raids were still on for them. Police claimed they were paid a huge sum of money to carry out the attack.
Sources said,so far,Rakesh had claimed he knew nothing about the plan to kill Bhardwaj. Now it has emerged that Rakesh knew of the attack since he went to collect the car from where the assailants had left it,police said.
