Police probing malicious emails sent to senior MAMC doctor from Delhi

A senior doctor and Head of Department at the Maulana Azad Medical College has approached the cyber wing of the police after a mail was circulated in the department and hospital administration accusing him of seeking sexual favour from students,police said.

The mail not only accuses him of asking for sexual favour but also indulging in other illegal activities like demanding money from students. Police said that a female doctor and Head of Department from the BJ Wadia hospital for children in Mumbai has also received similar emails,but did not disclose its contents.

Both the doctors against whom the mails have been circulated are renowned in the field of Paediatric Surgery.

The mail was also sent to various members of the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgery,police said,adding that two fake email addresses were created by the person who circulated the mails.

One of the victim,Professor Yogesh Kumar Sarin,currently the Head of the Paediatric Surgery department at MAMC approached the Economic Offences Wing and got his complaint registered last week. He has also named the suspects to police.

“I have been a no nonsense person in my profession. I am the Head of the Department and also occupy various posts,which a few people do not appreciate. They have tried to defame me and remove me from those posts by circulating such kind of mails,” he said.

He added,“I have given a few names to the police and they have zeroed down on one person. The police has asked me not to reveal the names of the suspects publically as they are in the process of gathering the evidence.”

Investigating officials said that the server from where the mail was sent was found to be in Delhi.

Joint Commissioner (EOW) Vivek Gogia said,“The allegations have been made against officials of premier institutes. The investigation is underway,” he added.
