A Delhi Police constable was arrested for allegedly molesting and manhandling a 50-year-old woman councillor of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, said police Sunday.
In her complaint to police, the councillor alleged that the constable, Rajjit, was drunk and misbehaved with her in Pandav Nagar area Friday around 9.50 pm when she was waiting for an autorickshaw to return home after conducting a fogging drive.
“Around four years ago, he was transferred from Pandav Nagar police station after I filed a complaint against him, notifying his senior officers about his corrupt practices,” she told The Indian Express.
“He saw me Friday, stopped his bike and rudely asked me where I was going. I felt bad and told him to go away. He boasted he was on the security wing of a Union minister and abused me while making obscene gestures. I got angry and tried to grab him. He grabbed my wrist and my bangles broke due to which I suffered cuts on my wrist. He pushed me and fled,” she added.
On the basis of the councillor’s complaint, a case was registered under sections 354-A (making sexually coloured remarks), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC against the constable at Pandav Nagar police station.
“The constable was arrested,” said a police officer. “He has been placed under suspension,” the officer added.
The councillor said, “I have decided to meet senior police officers and request them to dismiss him from his job.”
Four-year-old molested in school washroom, say police
A four-year-old girl was allegedly molested inside the washroom of her school in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area, said police Sunday. A case has been registered, but no one has been arrested yet, police added.
Police said the incident came to light after the child came back home from school on September 16 and told her mother a mustachioed man had taken her inside the washroom and touched her inappropriately, said police. “The child’s parents lodged a complaint at Vikaspuri police station. A case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered,” said a police officer.
Police have questioned the employees of the school and teachers. “CCTV footage is also being scanned, but no suspicious activity has been detected. We have not ruled out the possibility of an outsider’s entry into the school,” the officer added.
