Dehradun police on Monday evening claimed to have recovered the body of Delhi resident Avijit Paul (about 27 yrs) from near Naugaon village in Uttarakashi district of Uttarakhand.
On 24th October, Avijit and Moumita Das (24 yrs) had suddenly disappeared from Chakarata area, about 80 km away from Dehradun. Later on October 29, Moumita’s father Mrinal Krishna Das lodged a complaint with Saket police station of Delhi and subsequently, Delhi police sought help from Dehradun police to trace the duo- Avijit and Moumita. Police sources said a team of Delhi police arrived Dehradun on Sunday evening.
“On the basis of disclosure made by the driver Raju, police have recovered the body of Avijit from Naugaon village in Uttarakashi district on Monday. Police team interrogated the driver Raju and got a lead in the case. Our police team is on job to trace Moumita’s body also,” Dehradun SSP Ajay Rautela said.
However, SSP Rautela refused to divulge anything about the police investigation in the case. He added the driver confessed to have killed the duo. He further added police have undertaken special operation to nab the driver Raju’s three accomplices in this crime. To a question regarding motive behind the crime, Rautela said he won’t disclose anything right now in this matter.
Police sources said the duo- Avijit and Moumita- had reached Dehradun by a train and checked in a hotel. “Next morning, they had gone to Chakarata area by a taxi. They have gone missing ever since,” a source in Dehradun police said.
Police sources further said both Avijit and Moumita hail from West Bengal and they reside in Delhi’s Lado Sarai area under Saket police station. Moumita teaches Fine Arts at a private college and Avijit is reportedly a painter.
