Police arrest five persons for robberies across Capital

“The accused had intercepted the car and forced the two businessmen to stop while his aides threatened the victims. The accused later abandoned the car at a certain distance and fled with the money,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand.

In another case,police arrested Sunil Kumar (21) for committing robbery at the District Centre of Janakpuri on Wednesday. Police also recovered cash,driving licence of the complainant,registration certificate,a PAN card,an ATM card and a Nokia phone from his possession.

According to police,the complainant,Surender Kumar,had parked his car in the basement of the District Centre. He forgot his purse in the car and around 12 noon,he received three SMSes on his mobile,informing him about withdrawals worth Rs 25,000.

“On checking,he realised his purse and stereo were missing from his car. Footage from the CCTV camera installed in the basement showed the accused stealing them from Kumar’s car,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West),V. Renganathan.

The accused had purchased a Nokia phone worth Rs 7,000 through the ATM card. Rs 16,500 were also recovered from him,Renganathan added.

Three alleged robbers were also arrested from East Delhi for their involvement in a number of robberies in East and North-East Delhi.

According to police,Suraj Kumar (29),Sonu Singh (23) and Sunil were arrested from Jagatpuri area in East Delhi.
