PM Modi attends Christmas morning service at Delhi church

The service included prayers, carols, hymns and a special prayer for the Prime Minister by Rt Rev Dr Paul Swarup, the Bishop of Delhi.

Describing Christmas as a reflection of the “timeless message of love, peace and compassion”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attended the Christmas morning service at Cathedral Church of the Redemption in the Capital and extended greetings to the citizens.

The service included prayers, carols, hymns and a special prayer for the Prime Minister by Rt Rev Dr Paul Swarup, the Bishop of Delhi.

“Attended the Christmas morning service at The Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi. The service reflected the timeless message of love, peace and compassion. May the spirit of Christmas inspire harmony and goodwill in our society,” the PM said in a post on X.

“May Christmas bring renewed hope, warmth and a shared commitment to kindness,” he added.

Earlier, he greeted citizens on the occasion. “Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society,” he said in another post on X.

Over the last few years, the PM has been regularly attending programmes connected with the Christian community.

During Easter in 2023, he attended a programme at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Delhi. On Christmas in 2023, he hosted a programme at his residence 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. In 2024, he attended a dinner at the residence of Minister George Kurian and also a programme hosted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.

BJP national president and Union Minister J P Nadda participated in Christmas celebrations at the Christian Higher Secondary School in Delhi. At the event, organised by the Mai Naga Christian Fellowship Delhi (MNCFD), Nadda recalled the teachings of Jesus Christ, “which promote love, compassion and service to humanity”.

He issued a public appeal to work towards the betterment of humanity amid a gathering predominantly consisting of the Naga community from Manipur and some from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. He also highlighted the NDA-led government’s ‘Act East’ policy’s impact in the North East.

BJP national secretary and national spokesperson Anil K Antony as well as chairman of Bharatiya Christian Manch and BJP national spokesperson Tom Vadakkan were among those who attended the event.
