The incident took place on December 19 when at IGI Terminal 1. The altercation allegedly started over the use of a staff security check area.
Five days after a passenger was allegedly assaulted by an Air India Express pilot at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, the police have started scrutinising the CCTV footage of the incident.
An officer also claimed that a medical report has confirmed assault on victim Ankit Dewan.
The CCTV footage shows the pilot hitting Dewan and restraining him, officers said.
The FIR in the matter was filed on Monday.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dewan said he returned from a holiday in Jaipur and submitted a police complaint via email. “I am aware of the developments in the matter in the past few days and have submitted an official complaint via email. I would not comment on the matter further till I get an update from the police,” he said.
According to him, he had a verbal altercation with accused Virender Sejwal — who was among the airline staff members cutting the queue — following which the pilot assaulted him. At the time of the incident, Sejwal was not on official duty and was travelling as a passenger with IndiGo to Bengaluru.
Sejwal alleged that Dewan verbally abused him without provocation and continued using “abusive, degrading and threatening language” even after being asked to stop.
The incident took place on December 19 when at IGI Terminal 1. The altercation allegedly started over the use of a staff security check area.
On Sunday, Sejwal claimed that the incident had been “misrepresented” on social media, “unfairly projecting it as a ‘pilot vs passenger’ dispute”. The altercation was a “purely personal matter between two passengers” and had “no connection whatsoever” with his professional responsibilities, the pilot had underlined in a statement issued by his lawyer on his behalf.
