From a family of frilly Shih Tzus lolling around in red ribbons to an astonishingly well behaved brown Newfoundland sporting a pink collar—Saturday evening at the DLF Promenade in Vasant Kunj was a veritable pet fest,as Delhi’s pet-lovers came together for a canine fashion show,to celebrate the launch of PetSetGo,a pet accessory and food import company. “The idea was to show the relationship between the pets and their owners,” said Raghav Modi, owner, while helping DJ Iggy choose the perfect collar for his Newfoundland, even as pet grooming company,Scooby Scrub, gave the canine a final brush.

From pooches with flashy bandanas and frilly collars to some with hand-sewn beaded add-ons,the 25 pets who took to the ramp with their owners were a pretty sight to behold. Sonia Formay,a Delhi housewife who had brought along three chocolate brown Shih Tzus gushed on about her “thoroughly pampered lap dogs”. “I got them from Malaysia for Rs 60,000 each. I have put them on the leash for the first time today. They are never unattended,” said Formay, who carried the three in her arms while walking on the ramp.

Meanwhile,Sofiya Azad, daughter of Union Minister for Health,Ghulam Nabi Azad, walked the ramp in a chic leopard print jacket along with Brandon, her three-year-old white Turkish Akbash,a gift from a friend. “We have got five of these and this one behaves like an emperor. He knows today’s his day,so he’s looking even more regal,” laughed Azad, who is pursuing a course in international journalism in London, and is on a visit home. Azad was emphatic about not indulging her dog in lavish grooming sessions. “My dog is very good-looking as he is,so I don’t need to do much,” she smiled.

As the evening unfolded, the first pooch to walk the ramp was Leo,a Cocker spaniel who dragged out its owner, petite Simrita Singh, kitted out in white shorts. “One has to be barking mad to miss this event. I have got four pugs and a handsome English bulldog. They are a complete riot and I love them like my kids,” laughed Shivkaran Singh,co-owner of Smoke House Grill. Singh walked the ramp with his three pets Mirchi,Pepper and Sultan, while model-turned-DJ Iggy’s pet Zorro won kudos for being extremely well-behaved.

Anirrudh Khaitan, who runs Khaitan Public School and his daughter Saya,10,took a bow with Nelson, their German Shepherd. Gallerist Parul Vadehra of Vadehra Art Gallery paraded Oscar,an eight-year-old golden retriever. “Sometimes he acts like a spoilt child. He likes getting hosed down, instead of a bath in a tub,” shared Vadehra. The show ended with Clyde,a massive black 80 pounds Rottweiler escorted by noted advocate Harish Salve,(Left) who seemed to enjoy every bit of it. “Clyde loved the ramp. He’s the alpha male of the family and he is very protective about my wife,” said Salve, who has a pair of Rottweilers,Bonnie and Clyde. Salve’s daughter Sakshi walked with a small terrier. For a day at least,it was a dog’s world.
