The set is a hospital and all eyes are on Govinda. He walks around in his brown-blue striped shirt, followed by his entourage of security guards,make-up man and the film crew. The film is called Chai Garam, and pits Govinda opposite Celina Jaitley and Esha Deol. Not that he is complaining: “People have told me that I’m not looking bad,so that means I’m looking good. So I guess it is ok,” he says with a smile.

Ever since he quit politics,Govinda’s schedule has been packed with shoots. He’s back in full form and has over six films set for release. “It’s very refreshing to come back to cinema,” he says. It’s an added advantage that most of the films have him playing Romeo to pretty heroines. “Most of the time I just keep looking at their beautiful faces,” he jokes. “After I came back from politics, every face looks so beautiful here. Not that political people are ugly but there is so much ugliness in the society.” Does he miss being a politician? “Nobody can miss politics. Even if you are not involved in politics,it’s around you in some way or the other,” he says.

Since he is synonymous with a vivid wardrobe,it’s a little odd to see him in sober colours. “For the last few years,I had to wear only white kurtas all the time. It was quite boring and I was always worried about stains,” he explains. “Now I’m back to colour. I’m working with good directors like Priyadarshan and David Dhawan, who have given me a great new dressing style that goes with their films. When I came back to the industry,I realised that people no longer dress the way they used to.”

He talks emphatically about his next release,David Dhawan’s Do Knot Disturb. “It’s the kind that will make you feel good about yourself when you walk out of the cinema. Do Knot Disturb is a sign put outside rooms when people want privacy, especially after marriage. The film is about getting disturbed during romance,” he says with a laugh.

After that he has another string of releases,Naughty @ 40,Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai,Run Bhola Run and Raavan. Most of them are what he’s known for: comedy. “Comedies are hard work. My main criterion is that the film should be entertaining. I do want to try something new though,I think I should try some action. But I don’t want to leave my turf of comedy so I want to do a film that combines action with comedy,” he reveals. Bravo!
