Panel to approve syllabi of UG courses next week

The syllabi of over a dozen undergraduate courses will be placed for approval before the Academic Council of the Delhi University that will hold a special meeting on May 13.

The syllabi of over a dozen undergraduate courses will be placed for approval before the Academic Council of the Delhi University that will hold a special meeting on May 13.

With admissions to undergraduate courses scheduled to begin from May 28,colleges are reportedly delaying even the printing of prospectuses, not knowing how many courses will be covered under the semester system.

The agenda for the meeting,to approve redesigned courses to suit the semester system, indicates that the semester system will not be implemented completely at the undergraduate level this academic year because only a few syllabi are ready for the Council’s approval.

However, none of the syllabi approved by the Faculty of Sciences have been peer-reviewed,as mandated by an Academic Council resolution of March 2003.

Also in the danger of being bypassed is the Standing Committee on Academics of the Academic Council, which must approve the syllabi before it is placed before the Council. With only five days to go for the meeting, the Standing Committee may not get an opportunity to consider the syllabi.

Before the council

* BSc (Hons) in Chemistry,Botany,Zoology,Geology,Bio-Medical Sciences and Nursing

* MA in Russian Studies,Master of Business Economics
