Four Florentine artisans are busy at their workstations, piecing together, perhaps one of the world’s most coveted bags. For some, buying a classic 1973 might be a rare treat, but seeing one being made is rarer still. To honour their 90th anniversary,Gucci flew down a quartet of its artisans from Italy and on Friday, brought the treat of witnessing the making of the iconic bags to their clientele in Delhi, firsthand. The Artisan’s Corner tour has been travelling around the world since 2009,giving their loyal buyers a chance to see what goes behind making such a bag.

If Mumbai’s exclusive cocktail of Artisan’s Corner (which took place on December 2 at the Galleria,Nariman Point) had fashion devotees Sonam Kapoor and Poorna Jagannathan on their guest list, its Delhi counterpart, which took place on Friday at the Gucci outlet in Emporio Mall, had a fancy turnout with Delhi’s swish set in attendance. “It’s not just any other evening where we come and get photographed. We can actually see the artisans at work. I’ve already picked up a Stirrup bag and a 1973. My Stirrup,as we speak,is being made,” said Tanisha Mohan, one of Delhi’s most spotted socialites, pointing excitedly at the counter where an artisan was touching up a blue bag with an instrument.

The evening was thick with air kisses and heady perfumes,as guests continued to troop in,late into the evening. “For a personal touch-anyone can get their initials embossed after the product has been made,” said a Gucci salesperson.
