India missed out on participation in the Wrestling Test event for the London Olympics after the organisers denied permission to the team as none of the countrys wrestlers had made the cut for next years mega-event so far.
The team wont be flying to London as none of our wrestlers has qualified for the Olympics so far, which the organisers said was a pre-requisite to participate in the tournament, the president of the Wrestling federation of India (WFI),Dushyant Sharma said.
As many as 18 wrestlers, including four women in different weight categories, were scheduled to visit London this week for the Test event. Sharma, however, reiterated that the boys will be flying to USA for a month-long preparatory camp at Colorado Springs next month.
The rest of the schedule remains as it is, Sharma insisted. They will visit US next month for a preparatory camp.
They will also participate in the Dave Schultz Wrestling championship, he said.
The President, though, said the selection of the players for the preparatory camp will be done on December 16 and 17. He added that it will be ideal preparation for the wrestlers considering the fact that some of the best athletes across the US will also be there.
The visit will provide Indian wrestlers a chance to train alongside some of the best in the business and will also give them the right kind of infrastructure to prepare well ahead of the Olympics, he said.
Sharma, meanwhile, remained confident of maximum number of Indian wrestlers qualifying for the marquee event. I am hopeful that our boys will make the cut during the upcoming qualifiers, Sharma insisted.
