In a meeting of the MCD on Monday, the Opposition Congress staged a walkout in support of Mayor Kanwar Sain, saying the BJP had overruled him because he was a Dalit. The meeting was adjourned without the scheduled agenda being taken up. The BJP councillors disrupted proceedings after the Mayor gave a Congress member the chance to speak before them. “Never in the history of the MCD has the ruling party disobeyed the Mayor. Sain wants to run the House impartially,in cooperation with the Opposition, but the BJP members were not ready to accept that. They don’t want a Dalit Mayor to succeed,” Leader of the Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma said. Subhash Arya,Leader of the House, admitted that “everybody should accept the Mayor’s ruling” but dismissed the “Dalit” angle. — ENSIn a meeting of the MCD on Monday, the Opposition Congress staged a walkout in support of Mayor Kanwar Sain, saying the BJP had overruled him because he was a Dalit.
