Communalism Combat has sent an open letter to the UPA,asking the ruling coalition to not issue nominations to Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler,as this would send a negative message contradicting the partys commitment to justice, the rule of law and the Constitution. Several victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots have named the duo and said they led and instigated murderous mobs. Thousands of Sikhs were hounded and killed in the riots in the Capital, which also forced many to leave Delhi. Communalism Combat members said there are many victims of the riots living in Tilak Vihar, where many displaced families were rehabilitated. Teesta Setalvad,co-editor of the magazine, signed the letter along with Javed Anand,Javed Akhtar,Fr Cedric Prakash,Arpana Caur,M K Raina,Ram Rahman and Madhu Prasad, among others.
