On Women’s Day, ECI holds special campaign to woo women voters

As many as 6,000 women have applied for enrolment in the voters’ list.

On International Women’s Day, the Election Commission of India organised a campaign that aims to raise turnout of women voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The campaign is titled “Election Awakening for Women and Youth”.

An Election Commission official said they received a good response. He said as many as 6,000 women have applied for enrolment as electors of Delhi. He said a signature campaign was held at Maitreyi College, where girls took a pledge to vote.

Several NGOs and women’s self-help groups also participated in the process. The central district election office organised an integrated awareness campaign in which around 2,500 women participated. As many as 1,098 and 1,453 forms enrolment forms have been received in the south and the southwest districts respectively.

The rally, which aimed to increase voter awareness, started from Daryaganj, Red Fort and went through all major adjoining roads. Women were taught about the importance of the election process and their votes, and told that each vote is important for the development of the state.

Other activities included rallies, street plays, motivational talks on women empowerment, etc. The EC also held camps at various women colleges, Metro stations, polling stations and gender resource centres.

In certain districts, door-to-door visits and public announcements were organised, which witnessed the participation of campus ambassadors and civil defence volunteers.
