“During investigation, accused Animesh Jha disclosed that he had murdered his mother as he suspected that she intended to transfer all her property to his sister,” DCP Indora stated.
A 42-year-old man accused of murdering his mother in 2017 was arrested near the Indo-Nepal border after absconding for over five years, the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch said on Thursday.
On the arrest, DCP Harsh Indora said, “Animesh Jha, a resident of Dwarka, New Delhi, was apprehended on the intervening night of December 3-4, 2025, from Nautan Road, Sonauli, Uttar Pradesh, following months of surveillance and intelligence gathering.”
According to police, the incident occured on February 28, 2017, when Jha’s sister reported that their mother had not responded to calls for several days. Soon, police discovered the body at the victim’s Dwarka residence. An FIR under Section 302 IPC was registered at PS Dwarka North station.

Jha, a B.Tech graduate was granted interim bail during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 but failed to rejoin trial proceedings. The court declared him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) on October 22, 2024.
A specialized team led by Inspector Gautam Malik traced Jha’s movements using advanced technical analysis and ground surveillance before making the arrest, officers said.
